The IDA has been working with its partner NGOs to express some concerns over Bill 23.
The Bill:
- Reduces development charges
- Positions itself to override Official plans put together by local councils. Conservation Authorities will lose their power to mitigate pollution and environmental damage.
- There will be loss of farmland to sprawling subdivisions.
- Currently protected wetlands may lose protection. The bill does not address the need for compact low cost family housing.
Mayor Dolin says “Some of this is very much going backwards.”
