A cross-section of members’ comments in response to the Marina Project Survey
Marvin Hertzman, Big Bay Point “It will destroy the wetlands and have a disastrous effect on the wild life. It will destroy the infrastructure of a small community.”
Beverley Browne, Maple Grove “In addition to the huge increase in population, we must consider the number of visitors using this place as guests of new residences—overwhelming density.”
J. Stuart Stephen, Sandy Cove We do not want to encourage development that has a negative impact on highway and sideroad traffic, water quality and boating.”
Lloyd W. Kilby, Glenwood Beach “There will be too much vehicular traffic and too much boat traffic. Too many people crowded into an area with somewhat limited access by way of roads.”
Douglas and Susan McCutcheon, Big Bay Point “This development will devastate the ecology of the lake through the vastly increased number of small craft and the related noise and fuel pollution.”
Douglas G. Hartland, Big Bay Point “The density is too high. There is not sufficient waterfront contiguous with the resort land holdings.”
Joan A. Bone, Big Cedar Point “We are against the proposal for the construction of a golf course and the new residences that will result in the loss of much of the greenbelt area.”
Virginia Mason, Big Bay Point “It will forever change the uniqueness of Big Bay Point.”
Boyd Gartshore, Moosenlanka “Such high density development lowers the values and the way of living for the whole town.”
Carmine Giovanezzo, Guest Hill “This project will change Innisfil forever—it will become a tourist trap.
James LaRose, Big Bay Point “There will be an adverse effect on the community and Lake Simcoe. Big Bay Point would lose its ‘cottage atmosphere’. There will be too much traffic and too many people.”
Judith Langstaff, Big Cedar Point “We go to the lake to escape the pressure of urban living. The increase in population, vehicle traffic, boat traffic and the destruction of much of the greenbelt area are undesireable.”
Linda Hickerson, Glen Haven Beach “I say no to this project, I’m concerned about the water traffic. Some weekends the gas and oil fumes and visual oil smears on the water, close to children swimming were disgusting.”
J. M. Hamilton, Big Bay Point (a vote for the project) “The development should be on a much smaller scale; ie marina should replace only the current number of slips. We do not want something that will attract tour buses.”
Dr. M. Roebuck, Maple Grove “My year-round cottage will become a house in a smaller city than where I came from. The lake will not survive.”
Linda & Brett Sutherland, Guest Hill (a vote for the project) “We should like to see the area stay recreational seasonal…the idea of a hotel and condo at the marina is fine, but don’t like the density of this plan.”
Walter & Nancy Higgins, Big Bay Point “Many changes would be required—road widening, traffic lights, police security, boating traffic controls, etc. This development by Geranium is a sad mistake.”
C. S. Heidenreich, DeGrassi Point “In my opinion, the lake is now overdeveloped. All creek entrances have marinas; there is unbroken housing development around the lake; far too much motorboating; overfishing and pollution. Until these problems can be cleared we should avoid further development.”
